Kellie Kinsland explains how to seek grants at the workshop held at First UMC in Baton Rouge
Demystifying the Grant Writing Process
September 21st, 2009
Pastors and lay leaders having little or no experience with grant writing can learn the secrets of seeking and writing grants for churches at one of several free workshops hosted by the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana in October.
The goal of the workshops, held in different areas of the state, is to demystify the grant writing process and enable "rookies" to feel comfortable with grant writing.
Kellie Kinsland, who served as grant writer to the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church Disaster Response Inc. from 2007-2009, will lead the workshops. Kellie is currently serving as an independent contractor to the Foundation, writing grants for various ministries. Since 2007, Kellie has secured over $4 million in grants for Louisiana Conference ministries.
The workshop will cover the fundamentals of grant seeking and grant writing on a basic to intermediate level. Some of the questions grant writers can expect to have answered at the workshop include:
- How do I know if my organization qualifies for a grant?
- What kind of information should I expect to include?
- What are grantmakers looking for in a potential funding recipient?
- How can I strengthen my proposals to make them more attractive to grantmakers?
- What resources are out there to help me identify potential sources of grant funding?
The workshops will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the following locations:
- October 8, 2009, First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge
- October 15, 2009, Asbury United Methodist Church, Lafayette
- October 27, 2009, Wesley Conference Center, Woodworth
Reservations are required and can be made by emailing Kellie Kinsland.
